Where your history lives
Pinterest keeps two kinds of trail. The obvious one is recent searches, the list that drops down the moment you tap the search bar. The quieter one is your activity: the pins you clicked, saved, and lingered on, which Pinterest uses to build the home feed. Clearing searches is quick. Reshaping the feed takes a little more, since that runs off your whole history of what you engaged with.
Clear recent searches
Tap the search bar to open the dropdown of recent terms. On mobile, each recent search has a small x next to it; tap that to remove one at a time. To clear the lot, go to your settings and look under account or privacy for the option to clear search history. On desktop it's tucked in the same area. Once cleared, the dropdown starts empty until you search something new.
Why bother clearing it
Two reasons come up most. Privacy is one: a shared laptop or a borrowed phone shows your last searches to whoever taps that bar, and some of what you look up is nobody's business. The other is resetting recommendations. If you spent a week researching a gift for someone else, the feed fills with it, and clearing that history helps steer it back toward what you actually care about.

Tune what the feed shows

Pinterest takes the hint and shows fewer like it. Do that a handful of times and the home feed shifts noticeably. You can also follow and unfollow boards and topics to weight it toward what you're into now.
Keep your own copies so you control the data
Clearing history means letting go of some record of what you found. If there are boards or pins you'd hate to lose to a reset or an account issue, keeping local copies puts that data in your hands instead of only Pinterest's.
