How to Do Keyword Research for Pinterest
Pinterest works like a search engine, so keyword research is how people find your pins. The tools are free and built in: the search bar's autocomplete, the filter chips under a search, and Pinterest Trends. Find the words people actually type, then put them in your titles, descriptions, and board names.
Start in the search bar
Type a broad word into Pinterest's search and watch the suggestions drop down. Those are real searches people make, ordered by popularity. Type "smoothie" and you'll see "smoothie recipes healthy," "smoothie bowl," and more. Each suggestion is a keyword worth considering, straight from the source.
Use the filter chips
After you search, a row of colored word chips appears under the bar. Those are Pinterest's related terms, the ways it breaks your topic into subtopics. Click through them to find narrower keywords you can own, and note the ones that match what you actually make.
Check Pinterest Trends
Pinterest Trends is a free tool that shows how search volume for a term rises and falls over the year. It's how you catch seasonal timing and see whether a keyword is climbing or fading. Put your best keywords where they count:
- the pin title, near the front;
- the pin description, worked in naturally;
- your board names and board descriptions.
Keep it readable. Stuffing keywords in reads badly to people and to Pinterest.
Save the top pins for a keyword
Once you know your keyword, search it and look hard at the pins already ranking for it. Their titles and layouts tell you what Pinterest is rewarding. Revapin downloads those top pins into a folder, so you can study the wording and design of what's winning for a term side by side, instead of scrolling past them one at a time.
Mine the search bar, work the filter chips, check Trends for timing, then place your keywords where they matter. On Pinterest, the right words are what put the right pin in front of the right person.
