What Is Pinterest Trends and How to Use It for Content Ideas
Pinterest Trends is a free tool from Pinterest that shows you what people are searching for and how that search volume moves through the year. Type in a keyword and you get a chart of its popularity plus related terms, which tells you what to make and when to post it.
Where to find it and what it shows
Go to trends.pinterest.com and search any term. The tool draws a line showing how often people looked for that phrase over the past year or two, broken down by country. You'll spot the seasonal spikes right away — "fall outfits" climbs in August, "gingerbread house" peaks in early December, "meal prep" jumps every January.
Reading a rising search
A flat line means steady demand you can serve any time. A line bending upward means a search is heating up, and that's where the opportunity sits. Pinterest also shows related and trending terms below the chart, so one search opens into ten more ideas. Three things to pull from every search:
- the exact phrasing, since that's what people type;
- the month the search peaks each year;
- the related terms listed below the chart.
Timing beats guessing
Pins take weeks to build momentum in search, so you post ahead of the peak, not during it. If Trends shows a search climbing in October and cresting in December, you publish in early November. Working back from the spike is the whole game.
Save the top pins for a trend
Once Trends points you at a rising search, look at the pins already ranking for it. A download extension lets you pull that top set onto your computer so you can study the images at full size instead of squinting at a feed. Revapin saves those pins in a couple of clicks, giving you a reference set for the crops, colors, and text overlays Pinterest is rewarding right now.
Check Trends before you plan a month of content. It costs nothing, it's Pinterest's own data, and it turns "what should I make" into a list of searches you can actually see growing.
